North Korea source says talks could resume in February

MOSCOW: North Korea could return to six-way talks on its nuclear programme next month, Russia’s Interfax news agency quoted a North Korean diplomatic source as saying on Friday. “There exists a definite possibility that the fourth round of six-way talks could take place in the second half of February,” the source told Interfax in Beijing, adding there had been “some positive developments in the US position”. He cited statements by US congressmen who visited Pyongyang this month as examples of such positive developments. The six-way talks, attended by North and South Korea, the United States, Russia, Japan and China, have stalled since last June, with Pyongyang saying it was boycotting the negotiations because of Washington’s “hostile policy”. But the White House said earlier this week that it was hopeful North Korea would return to the negotiating table soon. reuters
