PPP worker threatens 2nd suicide attempt

KARACHI: Dhani Bux Memon, a Shikarpur-based politician of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), who attempted self-immolation a week ago, vowed on Friday that he would burn himself outside parliament or before President Musharraf.

Mr Memon was seriously burnt when he attempted self-immolation in Shikarpur to protest the alleged victimization of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto, Asif Zardari and other office-bearers and workers of the party. He demanded a withdrawal of all cases against Ms Bhutto and Mr Zardari. “I don’t repent my attempt even though the party leadership is unhappy I opted for this reactionary step,” Mr Memon members of the press on Friday at the hospital where he was admitted. —Staff Report
