Elahi defends govt efficiency
LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said the government is determined and capable of resolving external and internal issues efficiently and practical measures have been undertaken to seek understanding on national issues.
During Friday meetings with delegations of a German chapter of the Pakistan Muslim League and Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), Mr Elahi said the MMA has played a key role in strengthening the present political system and resolving the country’s constitutional deadlock.
He said this would go a long way towards promoting national solidarity. He called upon all political parties to help encourage economic stability and democratic values.
Mr Elahi said there exists a conductive atmosphere for investment in the province because the establishment of small and medium enterprises are being encouraged. He said foreign investors and expatriate Pakistanis are interested in investing in Punjab. This would increase the gross national product, reduce unemployment and diminish poverty.
Earlier, Federal Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal and Senator Dilawar Abbas called on Mr Elahi and discussed matters of political and national importance.
Meanwhile, Mr Elahi has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of Rawalpindi Senior Sub Editor of daily News Rao Abdul Basit. In a condolence message to the family, he prayed that Allah Almighty would rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the members of family so they could bear their loss. —Staff Report
