UC by-elections on July 18

LAHORE: By-elections to fill 10 vacant nazim seats and 46 naib nazim seats at union councils in the Punjab, Sindh and the NWFP will be held on July 18, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announced on Tuesday.

According to the by-election schedule, returning officers (ROs) shall start receiving nomination papers from June 26. Objections to nominations by voters can be filed on July 2 and 3 and nominations will be scrutinised on July 5 and 6.

Appeals against the acceptance or rejection of nominations must be filed on July 7 and will be disposed of by July 9. Nominations can be withdrawn up to July 12.

Most of the by-elections are in the Punjab, which has five nazim seats and 40 naib nazim seats up for grabs. Twelve of these naib nazim seats are in Lahore at UC-17, 31, 73, 86, 91, 92, 105, 108, 117, 130, 131 and 137. Naib nazim seats are also available in Rawalpindi (UC-47), Chakwal (UC-30 and 42), Jhang (UC-26), Sialkot (UC-23 and 73), Pakpattan (UC-4, 14, 17 and 29), Bahawalpur (UC-14 and 31), Sargodha (UC-153 and 161), Bahawalnagar (UC-35 and 114), Kasur (UC-1), Khanewal (UC-4) and at UC-173, 179, 192, 228, 240, 276, 278, 280 and 287.

Elections for nazim will be at Sargodha (UC-31), TT Singh (UC-31), Sheikhupura (UC-23), Sahiwal (UC-8) and Bahawalnagar (UC-27),

In Sindh, elections will be held at naib nazim seats in Dadu (UC-4) and Shakarpur (UC-5).

In the NWFP, elections will be held at 9 union councils in Swabi, Dera Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, Haripur, Swat, Shangla and Charsada districts.
