14 foreigners among 130 to get civilian awards today

ISLAMABAD: President Musharraf will confer upon 116 Pakistanis and 14 foreigners the national civil awards for services rendered in different spheres of life, today.

Hilal-e-Pakistan will be awarded to Dr H C Wolfgang Bovilter, an American, for his worthy services in the field of Chemistry. Hilal-e-Imtiaz will be awarded to Lt Gen (Retd) Ali Muhammad Jan Orakzai, former Peshawar corps commander, Lt Gen Ishfaq Pervez Kiyani, Rawalpindi corps commander, Israr Ghuman, Justice (Retd) Javed Iqbal, Ahmed Faraz, a renowned poet, Ms Nadera Panjwani and the singer Farida Khanum.

The winners of the Hilal-e-Quaid-e-Azam are US senator John Warner, Professor John L Esposito, acclaimed author of several books on Islam, and Prof Dr Amel, the Romanian ambassador. Winners of Sitara Imtiaz include Abida Perveen, Munir Niazi, Moeen Akhtar, S H Hashmi, Dr Ishfaq Hassan Khan and Yousaf Farooqi.

Pride of performance will be given to filmstar Rangeela, TV actor Muhammad Ayub Khosa, folk singer Arif Lohar, female singer Tarunum Naz, famous journalist Salim Bukhari and hockey player Sohail Abbas.

President grants operational awards to military officers: President Pervez Musharraf has granted operational awards to the officers and personnel of the armed forces on the Pakistan day.

Tamgha-e-Jurat has been awarded to Lance naik Nazir Ahmed (Shaheed) Sindh, while Imtiazi Sanad has been awarded to nine army personals including two Lt Colonels and five majors.
