Sport spots:China names paddlers to world team table tennis championships

BEIJING: China will send its top paddlers to the upcoming world team table tennis championships in Qatar beginning March 1, in one of the final tune ups for this summer’s Athens Olympic Games, state press reported Sunday. China’s men’s team will be headed by Ma Lin, world number one ranked player, while the women’s team will be anchored by Zhang Yining and Wang Nan, the world’s number one and two ranked players respectively, coach Cai Zhenhua announced on state television. Rounding out the men’s team will be defending Sydney Olympic champion Kong Linghui and world top 10 players Wang Liqing, Wang Hao and Liu Guozheng. World top 10 players Niu Jianfeng, Liu Ju and Guo Yue will round out the women’s team, Cai said. —AFP
