Lahore trounce Rawalpindi by five wickets

LAHORE: Lahore beat Rawalpindi by five wickets in the Quaid-e-Azam Cup match played at the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) ground here on Sunday.

Batting first, Rawalpindi amassed 265 for all in 49.5 overs. Naveed Qureshi hit a fine century off 120 balls which included seven fours and two 6s. Azhar Mahmood scored 73 runs off 85 balls with the help of four 4s. Bilal Asda’s 39-run knock contained three boundaries. From the Rawalpindi side, Wasim Khan claimed three wickets conceding 50 runs while Abdur Razzaq and Saqlain Mushtaq took one wicket apiece.

Lahore achieved the target for the loss of five wickets in the 43rd over. Taufiq Umer smashed excellent 78 laced with three sixes and one boundary from 71 balls in 125 minutes while Salim Elahi remained not out on 78 which included seven fours. Kamran Akmal played an unbeaten inning of 43 runs studed with four 4s. Imran Farhat scored 23. Lahore’s Bilal Asad chipped in with three scalps for 43 runs while Shoiab Akhtar and Azhar Mahmood took two wickets each for 22 and 53 runs respectively. Azhar Mahmood was declared the Man of the Match.
