Ashfaq Ahmed paid tribute
LAHORE: The late Ashfaq Ahmed, a renowned scholar and writer, was offered ministry twice, first during Ziaul Haq’s regime and the second time during Nawaz Sharif’s period, but he did not accept it, said Bano Qudusia, Mr Ahmad’s widow.
‘Similarly when I was seriously ill, the then president of Pakistan Ziaul Haq phoned my husband and offered to bear the expenditure of my treatment in London, but he declined this offer,” said Ms Qudusia, while addressing a ceremony to honour Mr Ahmed at Government College University (GCU).
Intizar Hussain, the chief guest, said that the radio programme Talqeen Shah gained popularity because of Ashfaq Ahmed but his real appeal was in fiction. He said that ‘Gudria’ a popular fiction by Ashfaq Ahmed Khan was an Urdu literature masterpiece. staff report
