Scientists’ families demand their immediate release

Staff Report

RAWALPINDI: The families of the detained scientists demanded their immediate release at a press conference here on Thursday and pressed the government to return the national awards

Saima Adil, daughter of detained scientist Dr Nazir, said the scientists have been associated with the nuclear programme since 1975 and it is very unfortunate that the present government is claming credit for the atomic power. “When we started to protest the issue, the government start threatening our families,” she said.

The families also strongly condemned the language used against the scientists by the Sh Rashid Ahmed, in connection with the debriefing process. Dr Shaiqur Rehman, son of Brig (Retd) Tajwar said that he still did not know the whereabouts of his father. He said that on January 17 a team of the Pakistan Army led by a major arrested his father and he has not been heard of since then.
