US embassy in Iraq condemns execution
BAGHDAD: The US embassy in Iraq denounced on Tuesday that the beheading of a US national by Islamic extremists suspected of links to the Al Qaeda terror network as a barbaric act.
“We condemn categorically this barbaric act and we denounce those responsible for engaging in the worst kind of savagery,” said embassy spokesman Bob Callahan. Iraqi police discovered the decapitated body of Eugene “Jack” Armstrong near a mosque in Baghdad on Monday, US officials said, after a video posted on a radical Islamic website showed his captors beheading him in Iraq.
“Any loss of US military or civilian life is disturbing,” a senior US military official said. afp
