Transplant institute to be set up

LAHORE: The next budget will include money for an organ transplant institution in Lahore, Punjab Health Minister Dr Tahir Ali Javed said on Saturday.

The institute will conduct kidney, lung, heart, hair, liver and bone marrow transplants, the minister said in an address at the opening session of a symposium on transplants at Allama Iqbal Medical College. He said the government would subsidise the cost of such procedures for poor patients at the institute. He said that the government would also encourage medical associations to hold symposiums and workshops so doctors can keep in touch with the latest developments in the medical sciences.

The symposium was organised by the Paediatric Association of Pakistan. Prof Sajid Maqbool, dean of Children’s Hospital, Dr Hayee, Dr Nisar Ahmed and Dr Amita Mahajan from India spoke. app
