India accepts dates for talks on nuclear CBMs

Staff Report

NEW DELHI: India has agreed to Pakistan’s proposal to hold talks on nuclear confidence-building measures on May 25 and 26, an Indian Foreign Ministry statement said on Wednesday.

The Pakistani proposals for the dates of the talks, which had been agreed when the leaders of India and Pakistan met in Islamabad in January, was made earlier this month through the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. “We have today conveyed our acceptance of these dates,” the Indian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Shaukat Piracha adds: Pakistan on Wednesday welcomed India’s acceptance to hold expert-level talks on nuclear CBMs on May 25 and 26 and a meeting of the Indo-Pak Committee on Drug Trafficking and Smuggling on June 15 and 16. “We welcome the acceptance by India of the dates proposed by Pakistan,” Foreign Office spokesman Masood Khan told Daily Times.

“This gives an impetus to the composite dialogue process and makes it predictable and ensures that the composite talks process stays on course,” he added.
