Prisoners get remissions

ISLAMABAD: President General Pervez Musharraf granted special remission in sentences to the prisoners jailed under various charges, on the occasion of Pakistan Day falling (March 23).

According to the Interior Ministry, President Musharraf granted special remission of different magnitude in various prisoners’ categories on the prime minister’s recommendation and exercising his prerogative under Article 45 of the Constitution. Special remission of 90 days was granted to prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment except those convicted of murder, espionage, anti-state activities, sectarianism, zina, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping, and terrorist acts.

Special remission for 45 days was granted to all other convicts except condemned prisoners and those convicted of murder, espionage, subversion, anti-state activities, terrorist act, zina, kidnapping, robbery, dacoity and convicts undergoing sentenced under the Foreigners Act, 1946. These remissions will be admissible to those having served two/thirds of their sentence. app
