Pakistani kinnos may head for Russia
LAHORE: Russia is likely to become a major destination for Pakistani mandarin kinnos within one year, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Board (PHDEB) Shamoon Sadiq said on Sunday.
The value of Russia’s annual imports of citrus at present is US $250 million. “In the wake of Pakistani exporters’ recent visit to the Russian federation, about 20 containers of kinnos have been shipped to this country,” he said.
He said the level of exports of kinnos to Russia was expected to touch of 100 containers by mid-April.
“If things go on smoothly, Pakistan is likely to have export orders for 1,000 containers of kinnos next year,” Mr Sadiq said.
The major competitors in the Russian market are Morocco, Spain, Israel and Egypt. —APP
