India tests supersonic cruise missile
NEW DELHI: India successfully tested on Tuesday a new surface-to-surface version of its supersonic cruise missile being developed jointly by New Delhi and Moscow, a defence ministry statement said. The missile hit the chosen target during the test conducted in the western desert state of Rajasthan, the statement said. The Brahmos missile, named after India’s Brahmaputra River and Russia’s Moscow River, has a range of 290 kilometres and can carry a conventional warhead of up to 300 kilograms. Pakistan earlier this month test-fired a nuclear-capable, surface-to-surface ballistic missile capable of hitting targets deep inside Indian territory. India and Pakistan routinely carry out missile tests while they at the same time hold talks as part of a cautious peace process re-launched early this year. reuters
