Indian major jailed for staging Siachen attacks
JODHPUR: An Indian military court jailed a major on Tuesday for faking battles and using ketchup as blood to win medals in the real conflict with Pakistan for control of Kashmir’s Siachen glacier, officials said. Major Surinder Singh of the elite Gorkha Regiment was found guilty on all seven charges against him and sentenced to three years imprisonment, including hard labour. Presiding judge Brigadier Amarjeet Singh said that the major had been sacked from the army. The court martial was held in public. The judge charged the major with faking two battles in 2003 and accusing his commander, Colonel KD Singh, of ordering him to stage the fantasy fights on the Siachen glacier. afp
