Communist Party calls for effective Kashmir ceasefire
NEW DELHI: The Communist Party of India called for an effective ceasefire between the Indian forces and freedom fighters, on the eve of talks between All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leaders and top Indian leaders scheduled on Thursday.
Communist Party of India (Marxist) senior leader Mohammad Yusuf Tarigami asked New Delhi in a press statement to gradually reduce the number of security forces and also significantly facilitate the return of young men stranded in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. Mr Tarigami said the young men should be given a chance to lead a peaceful life with their families. The press statement also demanded interaction and visits by the people of Kashmir across the Line of Control unhindered. The party has further demanded that restrictions on delegations from the two countries to visit either part of Jammu and Kashmir should be removed. Mr Tarigami believed that the dialogue could have been more broad-based and all parties should have been involved in it. —Iftikhar Gilani
