Pakistan post respectable total against South Africa

Staff Report

LAHORE: Pakistan Academy posted a respectable total of 303 in reply to South Africa Academy’s 470-5 declared on the third day of their four-day match at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Saturday. At close, the visitors were at 45 for the loss of one wicket after achieving first innings lead of 167. K Smit was on 15 and skipper FD Flessis 25. South Africa lost their opener Thandi Tshabalala cheaply for four to paceman Najaf Shah.

Earlier, the home side resumed their innings at overnight score of 88-2 and due to some gutsy batting from Shahid Yousaf and skipper Hasan Raza they were able to put up a sizable total before the whole team were dismissed in the final session.

Shahid, overnight 34, shared third wicket stand of 74 with Aamir Sajjad who contributed 21. After his departure, Shahid was joined by Hasan and the pair put on exactly 50 runs for the fourth wicket to further consolidate the innings before Shahid became Ugasen Govender’s first of three victims. His polished 85 contained 16 boundaries off 141 balls. Hasan was next to go at 261 after making a steady 57 with nine fours from 154 deliveries.

Mansoor Amjad (24) and Fahad Masood (22 not out) were the other notable contributors at the tailend. Pacemen Govender and Vemon Philander captured three wickets each for identical 43 runs while third pacer Frans Nkuna took two for 39.
