Thousands of Hindus, Muslims protest US occupation of Iraq
NEW DELHI: Thousands of Hindus and Muslims demanded an immediate pull out of US forces from Iraq and burned American and British flags in the Indian capital on Sunday. More than 3,000 protesters, led by Hindu and Muslim religious leaders, also carried placards calling the United States and Israel “shameless nations” for US atrocities against Iraqis and Israeli killings of Palestinians. Maulana Kalbe Jameed, a Shiite leader, urged “the United Nations to impose sanctions against the United States for human rights violations in Iraq” He added that the United Nations should deploy peacekeeping forces in Iraq before power is transferred to an elected government. reuters
