Authority will promote cultural activities in Margalla festival

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) will promote cultural activities in a year-long Margalla festival in the federal capital, said CDA Sports and Cultural Director Mustafain Kazmi. He was speaking as a chief guest at the launch of local young and upcoming singer Gul’s maiden music album ‘O Jania’ at a local hotel here. He said CDA had invited young singers to perform with lead singers during concerts being organised in connections with the Margalla festival. The director said that CDA had planned a monthly Ghazal night at Damen-e-Koh, the upgraded recreation spot of the city, adding and Gul Bahar Bano, a prominent Ghazal singer, would perform in an inaugural programme. CDA has organised several music programmes and drama and sports events in connection with the festival and another drama ‘Mounts of the Monty Cresto’ will be organised in the first week of June, said the director. Gul, who started with Na’at Khawani and later became a singer after winning a Music Challenge programme of the National Television Network (NTN), has formally launched his debut album after getting an encouraging response from public. “I floated some 10,000 cassettes and videos and got an encouraging response with all CDs and cassettes sold out, Gul said. The young singer, inspired by legendary singer Nusrat Fathi Ali Khan, said that he had remixed seven old hits in his album which was a tribute to Madam Noor Jehan. Gul said that he had several offers from TV drama producers but he wanted to concentrate on one field at the moment. staff report
