LHC reserves verdict on pleas by sugar mills

Staff Report

LAHORE: Justice Syed Zahid Hussain of the Lahore High Court on Friday reserved the decision on writ petitions challenging the duty on sugar mills privately producing electricity.

A five percent duty was imposed on the material used in the production of electricity at sugar mills by the Punjab government in 2001. The owners of sugar mills had petitioned that the duty should be cancelled as it was imposed without consulting the WAPDA or any other public agency.
