5 killed, 16 injured, in road accidents

LAHORE: Five people were killed and 16 injured in separate road accidents in the city and its suburbs on Wednesday.

Two people were killed and at least 15 injured when a bus overturned on Lahore-Jaranwala road. A loose tie rod caused the accident near Sharaqpur. Two unidentified passengers died at the scene. Sughran, Nazir Ahmed, Shafeeq, Afzal, Ghulam Bakhsh and Hajiran are among the 15 injured. They have been shifted to hospital where Hajiran, Nazir Ahmed and three others are stated to be in critical condition.

A tractor-trolley ran over a milkman in Kahna police jurisdiction. Din Muhammad was standing at Kahna bus stop when the tractor-trolley hit him. He died at a hospital after initial treatment. His body has been handed over to his family without an autopsy.

A man died in an accident in Misri Shah police jurisdiction. The unidentified 45-year-old man was trying to get on a bus near Garhi Shahu Bridge when the bus drove off. His foot slipped and he fell on the road. He was crushed under the wheels of the bus. Police have taken the bus into custody. The driver has fled.

A woman died and her husband was injured when a car hit them in Faisal Town police jurisdiction. Abdul Majeed and his wife Shahnaz, residents of Mochi Pura, were going on a bike when the accident took place. They were taken to a hospital where Shahnaz died and Majeed is in critical condition.

Robbers kill man: Robbers drugged a man to death in Lorry Adda police jurisdiction on Wednesday. The robbers gave the 22-year-old a drugged drink, which made him lose consciousness and then took away his wallet and other valuables. He was taken to Mayo Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police have sent his body to the morgue for an autopsy.
