Railway fares up by 5 percent
LAHORE: The Pakistan Railways (PR) on Monday announced an increase in rail fare by five percent. The new fares will be implemented from today (Tuesday).
According to a PR announcement, the fare increase will not be implemented on short distance routes (less than 100 kilometers) and on train tickets sold prior to this notification.
Meanwhile, the railway also increased the fare of high-speed diesel freight trains. PR has also notified a withdrawal of freight subsidy on seven items including wheat, dry date, coal, edible oil, containers and fresh fruits. The subsidy on the transportation of these items was around two to seven percent. staff report
