Local govt polls on joint electorate basis, says NRB

ISLAMABAD: Next year’s local government elections will be held on a joint electoral basis and President Pervez Musharraf will soon announce an amendment to the Local Government Ordinance on whether the elections will be held on a party or non-party basis, a National Reconstruction Bureau (NRB) official said on Monday.

Speaking at a National Assembly Standing Committee on Local Government and Rural Development briefing, NRB Secretary General Naeemul Haq said the bureau was not opposed to the idea of appointing administrators for local government polls but only the president could make the final decision. The committee criticised NRB chief Daniyal Aziz for not attending the meeting. online
