ATC refuses to stay Waheed brothers trial
Staff Report
KARACHI: The judge of Anti Terrorism Court-II (ATC-II), Feroz Mehmood Bhatti, rejected an application of Waheed brothers who requested the court to stay the proceedings of the case against them till a decision on the transfer application filed in the Sindh High Court is made.
M Ilyas Khan, counsel for Dr Akmal Waheed and Dr Arsahd Waheed facing charges of harbouring activists of Al Qaeda-linked group Jundullah, submitted in the application that the accused had been detained under section 11-EEE of Anti Terrorism Act since they were granted bail on December 2 by the Sindh High Court. The trial court had been prayed to stay the trial till the high court decides the petition moved by the accused against their detention under ATA but the same was dismissed.
