Govt responsible for our defeat: PPPP
PESHAWAR: Engineer Hamayun Khan, Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) leader, on Monday accused federal and provincial governments of using official machinery and resources in the by-election to the NA-35, Malakand Agency, which led to his defeat.
He said the impression that the PPPP had stopped women voters from casting their votes was wrong.
The party workers were not party to any agreement to prevent women from voting and the entire party could not be held responsible for the decision made by an individual, said the PPPP leader while addressing a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club.
Mr Khan alleged massive interference by both the provincial and the federal government in the by-polls. He said dozens of federal and provincial ministers visited the area and took part in the election campaign for their party candidates and announced development schemes.
The PPPP leader said over 10,000 baitul maal cards were issued during the federal minister for religious affairs’ visit to the area.
Mr Khan said the polling at stations, where the PPPP was gaining strength, was stopped at 4:00pm while at other polling stations it continued till 5:00pm. He said his party was collecting details of the irregularities committed in the by-election.
