KESC grid station attacked
KARACHI: Prolonged power outages caused an outbreak of violence in Qayyumabad, Korangi, on Tuesday night when a large number of enraged residents pelted passing vehicles with stones and ransacked the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) grid station there.
Outraged inhabitants of Korangi nos 2, 3 and 4 had been facing load shedding for the last five days. They said they contacted the concerned complaint centres to no avail. They burnt tyres and smashed the windows of public buses and minibuses. Area police rushed to the spot but were reportedly outnumbered. The crowd reached the KESC grid station in Qayyumabad and demolished a check post injuring security personnel in the process. staff report
