Musharraf asks lawyers to help stabilise Pakistan
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan must achieve political stability in order to progress and to counter extremism, and lawyers must play their part in this mission, President Gen Pervez Musharraf told a gathering of lawyers on Wednesday.
“The country must be politically harmonious, economically strong, peaceful and truly democratic to alleviate poverty and sustain progress in the long run,” said the president.
He asked lawyers to realise their responsibility because, he said, their proactive role was extremely important to stabilise and strength Pakistan internally. “We all are patriotic Pakistanis and should strive for political stability.” President Musharraf said the country had faced its challenges successfully and had gained international respect because of its policies, including the war on terrorism.
