Afghan embassy gives list of detained nationals
ISLAMABAD: The Afghan embassy has handed over to Pakistan a list of more than 400 Afghan nationals in Pakistani jails, who have been detained under Foreign Act, Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan said on Monday.
Talking to newsmen here the Afghan Ambassador Dr Nanuyalai Tarzi welcomed the decision of Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali to announce the release of the Afghan detainees in Pakistan.
He, however, regretted the attitude of the Pakistani jail authorities and said, “Despite our repeated requests, the jail authorities refused information about our nationals detained in jails. So we managed to get it from other sources and delivered it to the Pakistan government”, he said.
He said the Afghan embassy is in touch with Pakistani authorities for issuing Pakistani visas to Afghan nationals on the passports issued by the Afghan embassy and consulates in Pakistan.
Talking about the notice issued to the Afghan slum dwellers in Islamabad by the Capital development Authority (CDA), the ambassador said that Minister for Northern Areas Aftab Ahmad khan Sherpao had announced that no Afghan person would be forced to leave places occupied by them. —SANA
