PVMA pleads for level playing field for ghee units
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Vanaspati Manufacturers Association (PVMA) on Monday urged the government to bring the ghee units in the FATA and PATA at par with the rest in the country to provide level-playing field.
In its budgetary proposals, the PVMA has said that if the government fails to provide level-playing field it may force the industry to shut down. It has asked that unjustified and discriminatory polices be done away with in the announcement of the Federal Budget 2003-04.
Among the proposals that were formally handed over to the CBR on Monday, the PVMA listed a special treatment to the ghee units falling in FATA/PATA that enjoy a complete tax holiday and have an edge of around Rs 10 per kg ghee over other units. The other units pay a 20-percent sales tax and 3-percent minimum withholding tax as well as custom duty to the tune of Rs 9.05 to Rs 10.80. —Staff Report
