Security beefed up at pumps and hotels

MULTAN: Security was tightened at petrol pumps, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurants, hotels, offices, Lalpir thermal power station, Kot Adu power station and Schon thermal power station in Abdul Hakim, which are owned by foreign companies. The security followed reports from intelligence sources regarding unexpected subversive activities.

Multan Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Iftikhar Ahmed said, “We have tightened security at important places like petrol pumps, thermal power stations belonging to foreign companies, churches, mission hospitals schools, hotels and restaurants following bomb blasts in Karachi, to avert any eventuality. Private security guards have been deployed at these places keep a vigilant eye on any suspect.”

80 year old marries: A man called Malik Pir Bakhsh Dakhna (85) was married to a girl (20) on cash payment of Rs 80,000 to her parents in Multan on Friday, said sources on Monday. Family sources said, “Mr Dakhna, who has more than 50 grandsons and grand daughters, married the girl with the consent of his sons, who were unable to look him after.”

When a reporter asked why did he marry in this age, Mr Dakhna said, “I was feeling lonely after the death of my wife. My children had no time to look after me.”

Woman commits suicide: A mother of three daughters committed suicide by immolating herself, on failing to arrange dowries for her children.

Family sources said, “Shahida Perveen (48) wife of Abdul Ghaffar committed suicide by burning herself in her home as she failed to arrange dowries for her three daughters in Mohallah Rehmania on Sunday.

Abdul Ghaffar said, “My wife had become a psychological case as she was mentally disturbed as she could not make dowries for her daughters due to financial problem. Later she got hold of some kerosene oil from the market and locked herself in her room before pouring it over herself. When the children saw smoke coming out of the room they started shouting. The neighbours on hearing the children broke open the door and found her badly burnt. She died before getting any medical aid could be provided.”
