Small traders burdened with taxes

Staff Report

SIALKOT: Sialkot Electronics Dealers and Distributors Association (SEDDA) President Mirza Imtiaz Ahmed in a press statement on Monday has said small traders are already burdened with many taxes in different shapes.

Mr Mirza said, “In addition to local, provincial taxes, the retail sales tax at retail points is unjust and is creating harassment for traders. The formula introduced by the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) for collecting sales tax from retailers is impracticable. The registered sales tax traders are mostly un-educated and unable to submit their tax returns. These small traders don’t know this complicated system and I can’t understand why the government want to collect this tax through a complicated system of collection instead of deduction the same from the source or at the time of filing the income-tax returns.”

NA speaker inaugurates exchange: National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussein has said the present assembly would complete its tenure and all rumours will be ended soon as the issue of the Legal Framework Order (LFO) would be resolved after talks with the opposition. A speeding car killed a cyclist Mushtaq on Sialkot-Daska road near Sadara Badra village. In Faqeeranwali village a speeding van hit Yasmin injuring her.

A government employee Iftikhar threw kerosene at wife Arifa, in Lohari Shah at Nasir road, and burnt her in an argument. Arifa later died in the hospital.

In village Bhabrianwala, Yousaf and his accomplices shot and killed his sister’s father in law Sharif. He later injured Sharif’s daughter Rashida and son Muhammad Amin in a divorce dispute. In Sohawa village Qasier Mehmood killed his brother Councillor Rehmatullah along with his accomplices Jamshed, Shahid and Abdullah in a family quarrel.
