Ammanullah Sial arrested for Azam Tariq’s murder

By Shahzad Malik

ISLAMABAD: Police on Friday arrested former MNA Amanullah Sial, who had been declared a proclaimed offender in the Maulana Azam Tariq murder case.

Lahore and Islamabad Police together raided a location near Thokhar Niaz Baig in Lahore and arrested Mr Sial who came from the United Kingdom recently.

Punjab and NWFP police wanted Mr Sial in a number of sectarian cases.

Sources said that the Investigations Wing of Islamabad Police which deals in cyber crime located Mr Sial’s hideout by intercepting his conversation on his cellular phone and emails to his wife.

Police also raided places in Jhang and Khushab to arrest his close aides involved in sectarian violence.

Police was in touch with Interpol before his return to Pakistan. Mr Sial wanted to take his wife back to the UK.

The police detained his wife and two children three months ago when they applied for British visas in an attempt to flee the country.

They were released after three days.

Mr Sial has been brought to Islamabad and is kept at an undisclosed location.

Superintendent of Police Investigations Ehsan Sadiq confirmed that Mr Sial was in the custody of Islamabad Police.

Gunmen killed Maulana Azam Tariq and his four bodyguards near the Toll Plaza in Rawalpindi when Mr Tariq was going to Parliament House to attend the National Assembly session on October 5.

Golra Police had registered a case against Allama Sajid Naqvi, Amanullah Sial and Sabtain Kazmi.

Police had arrested Mr Naqvi, president of the Pakistan Islami Tehrik, while Mr Kazmi is still at large.
