Majority of senators absent from proceedings
ISLAMABAD: A majority of Senate members were not present during the upper house’s proceedings on Monday.
As it was a private-members day, five important bills, four of which were from the opposition members, were placed on the house’s agenda. When the house’s proceedings started, Senate Chairman Mohammadmian Soomro announced that some of the ministers could not attend the proceedings due to important official work and thus the bills should be deferred and taken up later. Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Senator Raza Rabbani said it was very unfortunate that the ministers were not present in the house despite of the agenda’s importance. He demanded the chairman take strong note of the ministers’ absence and serve them with notices. —Staff Report
