Ex-Jaish chief arrested for attacks on Christians

LAHORE: Abdul Jabbar, former supreme commander of the outlawed militant outfit Jaish Muhammad (JM), was arrested in Midhranjha, a town near Sargodha, on Tuesday, police sources said.
Jabbar was involved in the Taxila church blast and an attack on a missionary school in Murree last year. Sources said a squad of the Anti Terrorist Force (ATF), consisting of the Central Investigation Department (CID) of police, Intelligence Bureau (IB) and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), arrested him near a bus stand in Midhranjha. Sources said the ATF had information that Jabbar was reorganising the Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, another outlawed outfit.
Maulana Masood Azhar, chief of the JM, expelled Jabbar along with 12 others from the outfit for involvement in sectarian killing. The expelled formed men a separate group, Khudam-ul-Islam, which has confirmed Jabbar’s arrest.
Jabbar started with the Harkatul Ansar in 1993. When the organisation split into two factions, he joined Maulana Fazilur Rehman Khaleel’s faction Harkatul Mujahideen.
He served as the chief trainer of Harkat in Afghanistan and became close with the Taliban. Jabbar joined Jaish Muhammad in March 2000.
