LHC grants Khawaja Hassaan bail
Staff Report
LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted pre-arrest interim bail to Data Gunj Bukhsh Town Nazim Khawaja Ahmed Hassaan until June 16. Bail was set at Rs 25,000. Mr Hassaan is accused in a terrorism case, registered at the Mochi Gate police station. The court also issued notice to the government to reply to Mr Hassaan’s petition. His lawyer Naseer Ahmed Bhutta said Mr Hassaan’s arrest was politically motivated to stop him from welcoming PML-N chief Mian Shahbaz Sharif at the Lahore Airport. He said the court had suspended the detention orders passed under the Maintenance of Public Order law and granted the petitioner bail in that case, but feared the government would re-arrest him in the “flimsy” terrorism case.
SHO booked and sacked for lodging false case: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday disposed of a petition after it was informed the complaint had been redressed by the sacking and booking of a station house officer who made a false drug-dealing case against the petitioner.
Senior police officials told the court that an inquiry had found Manga Mandi SHO M Zahid guilty of registering a false case against petitioner Muhammad Sharif.
Mr Sharif said the motorway police had found an abandoned vehicle loaded with hashish on April 20. The motorway police handed the vehicle to the Manga Mandi police. The SHO then claimed to have recovered the drug consignment from the petitioner to try and claim efficiency points.
