30 killed in Nepal accident

KATHMANDU At least 30 passengers were killed and 33 others injured when a bus plunged into a river in western Nepal Saturday after the vehicle’s brakes failed, state-run radio said.

Soldiers and police were at scene of the accident in Khaireni on the Siddhartha Highway carrying out rescue operations, the radio broadcast said. Three of the injured were in critical condition.

The bus was headed towards Pokhara, 225 kilometres west of Kathmandu, from Butwal in the west of Nepal. afp
