Sialkot man claims making world’s biggest bicycle

SIALKOT: A bicycle manufacturer of Sialkot has claimed to make the world’s biggest bicycle. Sheikh Ibrahim on Wednesday said, “The length of the bicycle was 21 feet and 6 inches, the height was 13 feet 9 inches and it weighed 240 kgs. It took me three months and 17 days and nine workers to make the bicycle.”

The bicycle has been was placed at the Allama Muhammad Iqbal Chowk for the public.

SCCI condoles death: Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Secretary Nawaz Ahmed Toor’s mother died after a long illness. She was laid to rest in her ancestral graveyard in the presence of large number of people. SCCI President Mian Babar Iqbal and other senior office-bearers expressed their grief on her death.

Call for Benazir’s return: Pakistan Peoples Party Patriot (PPPP) President Haji Imtiaz Ahmed Tiger has said in a press statement Benazir Bhutto is the leader of PPPP. Mr Ahmed said, “Benazir should come back to Pakistan and face all cases against her and we hope that she will be acquitted, as she is innocent.”

Military attaches visit sport goods manufacturer: Military attaches of 23 countries, including Pakistan, visited the worldwide renowned export company of Sialkot, Saga Sports (Pvt) Ltd on Tuesday. The delegation consisting of Brig. Saga Sports Manager Rizwan Ahmed briefed the delegation and highlighted the history of the sports industry. The delegation then visited the various units of the factory.

EPB to provide all assistance to export oriented industries: Ikram: Minister of State and Chairman Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) Tariq Ikram has said country’s economy is moving in the right direction but we have a long way to go. Despite the events of September 11, and the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, there was an increase of 25 percent in Pakistan’s exports as compared to last year. He was addressing the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Tuesday.

Mr Ikram assured the exporters of Sialkot that after the US-led coalition war in Iraq, the Iraqi importing firms have confirmed to EPB, that all the export orders placed by the Iraqi importing firms before the war will be honoured by the Iraqi firms.

Mr Ikram said, “The EPB had struggled hard to increase the exports of Pakistan to Iraq from US $ 02 million to $ 100 million and has under the supervision of Prime Minister Mir Zafar Ullah Khan Jamali’s government is fighting successfully in pulling Pakistan’s economy from the international economic crisis.” Mr Ikram said, “The EPB is ready to provide all technical, moral and financial assistance to the export oriented industries of Sialkot by speeding up the pace of economic activity.” He urged the exporters to focus their attention to diversify their exports of traditional and non-traditional exports in the European Union (EU), the US, African, Russian and Middle East countries.

PPPP hunger strike: Sialkot Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian (PPP-P) workers held a hunger strike at Chowk Allama Iqbal against the Legal Framework Order (LFO) on the call of Benazir Bhutto on Wednesday.

Muhammad Yousif Khiliji, Malik Muhammad Tufail Awan, Syed Dilbar Hussain Shah, Master Muhammad Shafi, Advocate Chaudhry Azhar Hassan, Malik Naseer Ahmed Awan, Shakeel Ahmed Alvi, Haji Mushtaq Ahmed Mughal, Zahid Bashir Chaudhry and other attended the strike. The participant chanted slogans against the LFO and the government.

Security guard killed: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a security guard during a robbery attempt here on Thursday.

Gunmen stormed into the Shakeel Petroleum situated at Defence Road with the intentions of robbing the pump, Security Guard Muhammad Akbar put up a resistance, on being frustrated in their attempt the gunmen shot at him and fled. The police has registered a case.
