Employment centres to be set up at district level, says minister
Staff Report
LAHORE: Punjab Labour and Human Resource Minister Syed Akhtar Hussain Rizvi on Thursday said district level employment centres would be set up under the Human Resource Board so that unemployment could be controlled and human resource could be used to the maximum.
Likewise, a central employment centre would also be set up at the provincial level, he added.
Addressing a seminar in connection with Labour Day at a local hotel here, he said the country’s economy could not be stabilised till the labour community’s discontent was not dealt with. The present government was giving top priority to setting up least one labour colony, a labour hospital and a labour school in each district, he added.
He said the present government was promoting cooperation and understanding between entrepreneurs and industrial workers for industrial progress. He said the Human resource Department had evolved a welfare package to provide maximum facilities and relief to industrial workers. He said daily allowance in case of illness and travel allowances had been substantially increased. He said these steps had gone a long way in fulfilling the industrial workers’ demands.
The minister further said a new inspection system of factories had been introduced to avoid inconvenience to factory owners as well as ensuring uninterrupted industrial activities. He said labour officers had also been directed to ensure the strict implementation of labour laws within their jurisdictions. He said the Human Resource Department’s entire record would be computerised and the IT Department’s technical cooperation would be sought for the purpose.
