LHC pardons Shadman SHO after warning

Staff Report

LAHORE: Justice Syed Shabbar Raza Rizvi of the Lahore High Court has disposed of a contempt petition against Abdullah, the Shadman station house officer, after he produced the FIR against four alleged ‘qabza group’ members accused of forcibly entering a Christian woman’s house and harassing her. The judge pardoned the SHO, but gave him a stern warning.

Earlier, Maryam complained that the SHO did not register a case against the accused despite court orders. The SHO appeared before the court, apologised and sought time to register a case. He left to register a case and after 30 minutes produced an FIR in court.

“Are you a scoundrel protecting the accused? You are not working to remove the public’s grievances, so why should you not be sent to jail?” the judge had asked the SHO.

The petitioner had submitted in court that Salamat Masih and others forcibly entered her house and asked her to vacate it. She said that they stripped her and tortured her. She said that the SHO should be tried and punished.

LHC orders IGP to promote ASI: Justice Syed Jamshed Ali of the Lahore High Court has demanded the Punjab’s inspector general of police (IGP) and the district police officer (DPO) of Sialkot to explain why they defied a court order to promote Jamil Ahmad, assistant sub-inspector (ASI).

ASI petitioned that the IGP and DPO had deprived him of a promotion that was long overdue. The judge ordered the two officials to promote Ahmad within three weeks.

LHC summons Sahiwal DPO and SHO: The Lahore High Court has issued a contempt notice to the district police officer (DPO) of Sahiwal for not appearing before the court despite repeated orders.

The court remarked that the police officers had to obey court orders and asked the DPO to appear on March 11 with a written explanation of his conduct. The court also summoned the Shahpur. station house officer.
