SC summons record in judges killing case
Staff Report
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday summoned the entire record of the case regarding the killing of judges at Sialkot District Jail and directed the Punjab government to furnish a comprehensive reply today (Wednesday).
A three-member SC bench comprising Justices Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Khalilur Rehman Ramday and Javed Buttar expressed displeasure over the non-compilation of relevant records as the parties were citing documents, which were never put on record and were not available with the court.
Aftab Iqbal, advocate general of Punjab, sought more time from the court for compilation of record but the bench observed that everybody was looking towards the court, therefore the court wanted to go through each and every document without wasting further time.
Justice Ramday also wondered as to how the police officers were being tried under the terrorist court. Justice Iftikar also observed that someone should have pointed out before the trial court that the case of police officers should be treated as an ordinary criminal case.
