I asked for mannequins’ removal: Durrani
PESHAWAR: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani on Thursday acknowledged that he had asked shopkeepers to remove mannequins from their shops, saying the motive was purely “moral obligation”.
Speaking to journalists, Mr Durrani said shop owners were not forced to remove mannequins but only requested to remove statues.
“Does our moral obligations and religion allow this? Would someone like to see the mannequins in such form?” he asked. He complained that the issue was blown out of proportion by the media. The campaign against mannequins started a couple of weeks ago when police asked garment shops on University Road to remove the mannequins giving “vulgar looks.” —Staff Report
