Pakistan calls for eradicating poverty to curb terrorism
BEIJING: Pakistan has urged the international community to pay greater attention to the eradication of poverty to get rid of terrorism. Addressing the 11th Global conference on women entrepreneurs on Saturday, Pakistani delegation head Shirin Niazi said that eradicating poverty would make the world a safer place. She regretted that in the third world countries more than 70 per cent of people were living below the poverty line. She said that the Pakistani government accorded high priority to improving the living standard of the people. She added that the government had introduced micro financing credit as an important aspect of its economic agenda and small and medium enterprises (SME’S) were being promoted for this purpose. Shirin Niazi, a senior business consultant and member of the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce, said that Pakistan was ready to join hands with the international community to reduce poverty by 2015. She stressed the need for addressing problems like inadequate income, hunger, gender inequality, lack of education and healthcare. app
