LHC halts razing of west wing, forms expert body
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has halted the demolition of the west wing of its building and formed a five-member experts committee to give technical advice to restore the original building by October 5.
The decision was made in a meeting chaired by LHC building committee head Justice Saqib Nisar on Saturday. Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) President Ahmad Awais, LHCBA Secretary Azam Nazir Tarrar, Federal Law Secretary Mansoor Ahmad and UNICEF official Yasmin Lara attended the meeting.
Institute of Architects (IAP) Lahore Chairperson Imrana Tiwana, IAP Executive Members Nayyer Ali Dada, Dr Mahmood Hassan and Fouzia Qurreshi and National College of Arts Principal Sajida Haider Vandal are on the committee.
The committee will prepare a report on the requirements of the LHC building, methods of conservation and designs for the reconstruction of the demolished part. It was also decided that the debris would not be removed so that it could be used in the reconstruction. staff report
