By Shahnawaz Khan

LAHORE: The Lahore police will start a month-long sweep for proclaimed offenders and wanted criminals from September 20 to October 20. A special circular issued on Saturday by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Tariq Saleem Dogar warned all officers that any false case would be severely dealt with.

Sources said DIG Dogar, who is the city police chief (CPC), directed the senior superintendents of police (SSPs) of the Operation and Investigation wings to personally supervise the campaign throughout the month. Both SSPs have also been asked to prepare a comprehensive report and submit it to the CPC by October 22.

All Operation and Investigation superintendents of Police (SP) have been directed to assign specific targets to individual officers and monitor their daily performances. All sub divisional police officers will personally supervise the campaign’s progress.

The city police, over the past eight months, arrested 1,188 members of 222 gangs during various campaigns. Stolen goods worth more than Rs 2.5 million were seized from these criminals.

Around 17,077 proclaimed offenders or absconders were also nabbed during this period. The arrested perpetrators confessed to more than 2,140 crimes, including 11 armed robberies and murders, 13 murders, 42 armed robberies, 608 robberies, 508 burglaries and 958 other cases.
