Division set up in C&W Dept to build roads quickly: Pervaiz

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that a roads construction division has been set up in the Punjab Communication and Works Department to implement the roads construction programme quickly.
He was talking to a group of members of the National Assembly led by Federal Defence Minister Rao Sikandar Iqbal and another group of members of the Punjab Assembly from Sheikhupura and Mandi Bahauddin districts, which called on him on Saturday.
The chief minister said the government was implementing various reforms in the education, health, housing and other sectors. He said all departments have been asked to complete development projects on time.
Mr Elahi said the government was planning quick infrastructure development because better means of communication would strengthen the economy.
He said several roads and bridges had been completed at a cost of Rs 5 billion in the last fiscal year, which had improved the transport network throughout the province. The chief minister said development schemes were underway in all districts while the administrative capacity of the government institutions was being revamped to strengthen the development mechanism.
Mr Elahi said old or defunct industrial estates were being rehabilitated across the province while new industrial estates were being set up to generate more jobs. The chief minister said revamped transportation and communication had promoted business activities in the province. He said the government was determined to alleviate backwardness and poverty in Pakistan.
