National identity cards: SHC allows NADRA to keep deadline

Staff Report

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday quashed the stay order it earlier passed against the early expiry date announced by the National Database and Registration Authority for old national identity cards (NICs).

The stay was vacated after Deputy Attorney General Syed Zaki Mohammad filed a statement for the federal government saying that it did not intend to extend the final date for the computerized NICs after January 31, 2004.

The deputy attorney general showed the bench of Justices Anwer Zaheer Jamali and S Ali Aslam Jaferi a letter from a section officer of the Ministry of Interior saying the federal government did not intend to extend the final date for computerized NICs. The reasons were listed in the letter.
