LHC extends interim pre-arrest bails of accused until 24th
Staff Report
LAHORE: A division bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday extended the pre-arrest interim bails of 17 accused in Sialkot Jail case until January 24.
The bails were extended after the bench was informed that the record related to the case was placed in the Supreme Court.
The accused include DIG Malik Muhammad Iqbal, former Sialkot DPO Amjad Javed Saleemi, Gujrat DPO Raja Munawar, doctors Sajid Hassan and Firdous, Elite Police Inspector Mahmood Butt and policemen Ghulam Sarwar, Qaiser Mahmood Butt, Kamran Ali, Asghar Ali and others.
Earlier, the case was being heard by a bench consisting of Justice Sheikh Abdul Rashid and M Bilal Khan. However, the case proceedings on a plea for the cancellation of bails have been put before the newly formed bench because Ghulam Abass, father of one of the victim judges, objected to the hearing of the case by the previous bench. Abbas told the court that Justice Rashid had been part of the inquiry of the case.
The accused had disappeared from the courtroom of anti-terrorism judge Mujahid Mustaqeem when he cancelled their bails.
