Gas will be restored by Eidul Azha: minister

ISLAMABAD: The damaged gas pipelines in Sui are being repaired and gas to all parts of the country will be restored by Eidul Azha, State Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Mir Muhammad Naseer Mengal said on Tuesday.

He told PTV that the Balochistan government would be given all the required resources to protect installations of national importance. “All necessary measures have been adopted to avoid such incidents in the future,” he added. Efforts were underway to resolve the grievances of the Baloch people through peaceful means, he said, adding that only dialogue could resolve all contentious issues permanently. Several committees were working to resolve the problems and one such committee headed by Senator Mushahid Hussain would submit its report within a few days, he said, adding that the people concerned were being consulted before the report was finalised.

The current large projects would create a lot of job opportunities in Balochistan, he added. Lining watercourses throughout the province was being carried out at a cost of Rs 5 billion and a marble city was being set up in Gadani, he said. It was also decided to recruit the skilled labour of other provinces on contract and the labour in Balochistan would be trained in the meantime, he added.

After the training, the labour in Balochistan would replace the labour hired from other provinces, he said, adding that many Baloch youth have been sent to Islamabad and organisations such as the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) for training.

Praising the Balochistan Health Department, he said the provincial government had recently provided jobs to more than 1,000 doctors. app
