PIA face HBL in Patron’s Cup final

KARACHI: Kamran Sajid produced an outstanding all round show as Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) registered an impressive five-wicket victory against Customs in the decisive Pool A match of the Patron’s Cup one-day cricket tournament at the National Stadium here on Sunday. With this triumph, PIA entered the final of the Patron’s Cup.

Kamran cracked a brilliant knock of 87 off 123 balls with nine boundaries and also claimed three wickets for 30 runs in 10 overs to star in his team’s triumph.

Kamran and Ghulam Ali gave PIA a flying start by collecting 85 runs for the first wicket in 19 overs. Ali hit seven 4s in his enterprising knock of 40 and Bazid Khan made 34 off 47 balls with three boundaries. Kamran and Bazid lost their wickets with the score tied at 199.

Customs, after sent to bat first, struggled and eventually were bowled out for 199 in the 49th over. Besides Kamran’s three wickets, he got excellent support from left-arm pacer Najaf Shah and Fazle Akber who got two wickets each. Bilal Khilji top-scored for Customs, making 46 with five hits to the boundary and one over it. Aamir Bashir 34 with three 4s and Naseem Khan’s 32 also contained three 4s. PIA topped Pool A with 20 points with five wins and one defeat out of six games. PIA will now meet Pool B winner Habib Bank Limited (HBL) in the final for which date and venue will be announced later. —APP
